Wincustomise seems very retro, the sort of thing I would have liked 10 years ago.
Interfacelift seems mostly to be the same style of epic landscapes without too much variation really - mostly the world with some nice photoshopping.

My first recommendation would be InterFacelift. It has some great stuff, sensible download options and OK searching.
I used to get on well with WinCustomize, but ymmv - it seems to have gone downhill a fair bit.
Lifehacker often have good articles, e.g. this one on dual screen papers.

chkdsk yes, defrag no. I am thinking it's a virus of some kind - no way is there just a bad sector over my Chrome settings and nothing else. But I've run MSE plenty.
@Rich, Yeah probs. I'm considering taking the SSD plunge, but will probs get a medium size HDD. I have so little stuff - unlike you

afaict no massive problem accessing most of my files (I have so little stuff...) I think it's just a bad sector. It can't access all my Chrome settings, for example. Bit weird, really.

i haven't had chkdsk running since my first Dell laptop - which the hard drive went in. My most recent laptop had other hardware failures, namely the network card.
Corrupt hard drive obviously not great though, might be worth finding a good computer repairer - they may be able to rescue some of the data if you need it.
