Any luck with the HDD spud?
Also - any suggestions for good desktop backgrounds for my work desktop, Apparently Deviantart is blocked there though, so may rehost good ones onto fitzbilleh
chkdsk yes, defrag no. I am thinking it's a virus of some kind - no way is there just a bad sector over my Chrome settings and nothing else. But I've run MSE plenty.
@Rich, Yeah probs. I'm considering taking the SSD plunge, but will probs get a medium size HDD. I have so little stuff - unlike you
Sounds like the first thing to is get a cheap HD and a backup!
have you tried running chkdsk? or maybe even a defrag?
afaict no massive problem accessing most of my files (I have so little stuff...) I think it's just a bad sector. It can't access all my Chrome settings, for example. Bit weird, really.
i haven't had chkdsk running since my first Dell laptop - which the hard drive went in. My most recent laptop had other hardware failures, namely the network card.
Corrupt hard drive obviously not great though, might be worth finding a good computer repairer - they may be able to rescue some of the data if you need it.
*waits for solid state to get cheaper, preferably overnight*
Ouchy, Its not that old either is it?
What's your plan now?
Basically some of my hard drive has become corrupted. Probably from all that magnet stroking I did.
@Phil: what was that chkdsk error you had on your old computer? What OS was it?
I did indeed have an epic scale resolution version in my old files
